I've gone here for a years with family and it's a great option for dim sum. Your typical Cantonese dishes (hai gao, shu mai) etc are all very good. Dishes are hot and fresh. I recently went on a weekday when I was off from work with my parents and business is extremely slow. It's honestly a great opportunity to go because it's now crowded at all. The outside portion of the restaurant is currently under construction. The interior is very outdated hence the dock in 1-star but otherwise highly recommend this establishment.

Dim sum means, touch the heart, and it was a fun experience to share with friends. Thank you, John L., for suggesting we gather at Hong Kong Pearl Seafood to enjoy this age old custom of food and conversation. The restaurant is huge and has many beautifully decorated areas. I was impressed by the different sections of the restaurant and the unique design. The service was great. As a good Yelper, I had gone through reviews and picked out dishes I wanted to try. I am really glad that I was ready, because the dim sum carts start coming quick and fast. You have a little check off sheet, and you are charged accordingly to what you order off the carts. Truthfully, my eyes were way bigger than my stomach. But, no fear, I had a huge doggy bag or bags to take home. Some of my favorite dishes: The shrimp in rice paper was delicious. It was delicate and so tasty. The shrimp in walnut sauce was a particular favorite. The huge shrimp delicately fried with an outstanding sauce. The spareribs in the oyster sauce was very good. There are an abundance of bones, so eat carefully. The pineapple buns were crispy, light, and filled with a flavorful filling. I could have eaten a dozen. Also, the cute custard filled piggy buns were adorable and yummy. The salted egg yolk bun was a mouthwatering delicacy. I loved it. The shrimp har gao was also perfectly prepared and filled with delicious umami taste. I know I am forgetting some of these delicious delicacies. It was quite a feast and so epic. Thanks to John and his wife for hosting this amazing dim sum.

Opened on July 8, 2023, this restaurant is associated with the Hong Kong Pearl Seafood restaurant in Falls Church. My wife and I made a visit to see if the food was any different from the Falls Church location. We tried 11 dim sum dishes. It was better in quantity, taste, and variety. This is our preferred location for dim sum now! 1) Ginger Scallion Tripe It had tender book tripe in a sauce with mild flavors of ginger, garlic, rice wine, and chicken broth. It had slivers of ginger, so watch out for them. Not special but enjoyable. 2) Stir-Fried Rice Noodles It had pan-fried rice vermicelli, onions, sliced black mushroom, green onions, and carrots. The vegetables were sparse. It was dry-sauteed with a bland soy sauce. I had to take it home and improve it. Don't get this! 3) Bean Curd Skin Roll in Oyster Sauce It had filling wrapped with multiple layers of beancurd(tofu) sheet. So much tofu that it dominated the flavor. The filling had ground pork with seasoning, shrimp, strip bamboo shoots, and strips of woodear. Loved the filling flavor of salt, pepper, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, wine, pork, and shrimp. The oyster sauce on the outside of the wrap added boldness to the overall flavor. I'd be loving this if there was less wrap. 4) Salt and Pepper Calamari It was very crispy, somewhat salty, and mildly peppery with light breading coating thinly sliced squid. It was somewhat oily, but not enough to detract from the flavor. It was okay. Needs less salt and thicker squid. 5) Steamed Spareribs in black bean sauce It had small pieces of steamed chopped spareribs and taro in a sauce made of black beans, garlic, and seasonings. The ribs were slightly gooey because they're coated with cornstarch and seasonings. The dish has a tasty savoriness that makes it one of our favorites. 6) Shrimp with Walnuts in Mayo Sauce It had 3 large breaded shrimp, blanched broccoli, and candied walnuts. The sauce tasted of mayonnaise, honey, and condensed milk. The sauce was perfect. The shrimp were cooked just right, but the breading was soggy. It was so close to being ideal. 7) Salt and Pepper Shrimp It had 5 lightly breaded jumbo sized shrimp. They were crispy with a good deep-fried flavor. The shrimp shells were thick and chewy. It tasted of salt, pepper, and garlic. Great flavor, not so great chewiness. 8) Har Gow (Crystal Shrimp Dumplings) It had 4 dumplings with whole pieces of medium-sized shrimp. The shrimp had light flavors of salt, pepper, sugar, and sesame oil. It was well-made and tasty, but not traditional. 9) Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll There were 3 glistening soft crepes with 2 medium-sized shrimp wrapped inside of each. They sat in a slightly sweet soy sauce. The shrimp were tender with a light flavor of seasonings. They were made well with the proper flavors. 10) Piggy Custard Bun It had egg custard filling with a mild sweetness. It was thick and creamy with a sweet and savory egg yolk/milk/butter flavor. The bun was soft and slightly sweet. It had a cute little pig face. It was a delightful dessert. 11) Liu Sha Bao (salted egg yolk lava bun) It had a runny egg yolk custard filling that was rich, buttery, and moderately sweet. The bun was soft and slightly sweet. The colors of the bun were unusual. It was black with a brushed gold stripe across the middle. A deliciously unique dessert! The service was helpful, responsive, and polite. They serve dim sum on carts on the weekends only. You can order off their menu at other times. The variety was HUGE. Prices ranged from $5.50 to $15.95 per dish. We went on a Sunday and the restaurant was full by noon. It wasn't crowded because the dining room was huge. There were no wait lines because the dining room had lots of tables and the table turnover was often. They didn't make you feel rushed. The dining room had been renovated with upscale decor and furniture. They have 2 elevated stages, so events can be held there. The restrooms were functional and clean but dated. They are located in Walnut Hill shopping center which has free parking. The service, variety, prices, food, and ambiance were great for dim sum. This is one of the few dim sum restaurants in the DMV area that doesn't have an obvious problem in one of these aspects. We'll be coming back, definitely.

I am a huge fan of dim sum! And having experienced the traditional dim sum service in Hong Kong, China, New York and London... I've been searching for a similar experience in the D(M)V. I was really excited when I stumbled across Hong Kong Pearl Seafood Restaurant! From the pictures I found online I could tell that it would be an authentic dim sum experience with the food carts being pushed around the restaurant and the general decor. All of the menu items definitely were reminiscent of what you would typically expect... Char siu, har gow, siu mai, fung zao, turnip cake, cheong fun and soooo much more!! Overall everything we tried was delicious! Just that maybe because of where we were seated in the restaurant - by the time the dumplings/food got to our table it was luke warm or sometimes cold. Aside from that, as expected with dim sum... The food came out quickly and the service was good. I would definitely visit again, but maybe at the start of the dim sum service to get more opportunity to sample different dishes & also to order off of the main menu.

I have ordered dim sum to go in the evenings and thought they were ok. The fried shrimp balls tasted good, but were not as crispy as I would've liked, the xiao long bao also were tasty, but were not very hot. Of course dining in is the best way to yum cha. When I went with friends on a Sunday morning, the food was pretty good! The chicken feet, char siu bao, sticky rice, and bean curd rolls tasted standard. They had good flavor and were hot and fresh! What surprised me the most were the desserts! The pineapple buns had the runny custard, which I did not expect but liked. I also really enjoyed the durian pastry. I loved the flakiness of the pastry and the strong and sweet flavor of the durian. Overall, I do think the dim sum is decent and worth it for how close this restaurant is to me. FYI: When the restaurant is busy, you might not get as attentive waiters, but the atmosphere is very lively. You also won't get bombarded by staff and the food carts like you would at the Hong Kong Pearl in VA.
